Founded in 2001, the Greater San Diego Muslim Community Center (GSDMCC) initially operated in Rancho Penasquitos, offering prayer services and Islamic School. By 2005, GSDMCC Foundation was established to acquire land, leading to a new center in Santa Luz. Fundraising efforts secured $1.2M for the project, resulting in the opening of a 10,000SF center in 2010. Over the years, expansions included sports facilities and energy-efficient initiatives, with the community’s growth evident in increased attendance and enrollment.
